For a long time I explained evil in other ways. I still believe those explanations, but now I also think that the specific content of your belief system matters a lot.
I rebelled against Ayn Rand by looking for other causes of evil. Ayn Rand seemed to think that evil came from evil beliefs and nothing but evil beliefs. So I found a lot of other things that can cause evil. But now I can finally think of "belief systems" again and wonder about their specific content - just in time to see Atlas Shrugged in theaters.
